Tag Heuer Monaco Chronograph Watch, Titanium With Skeleton Dial.
In the thrilling world of motorsports, the last weekend in May is a calendar highlight; Formula One's most prestigious event, the Monaco Grand Prix. This year, TAG Heuer seizes the moment to launch the latest iteration of their iconic Monaco Chronograph.
Following the releases of the TAG Heuer Monaco Split Seconds Chronograph at Watches and Wonders, and, the brand's recent Kith revival of a classic Formula one model, Tag is certainly staying very busy!
As a person with a deep love for motorsport, and someone who has loved the Tag Monaco, I couldn’t be more excited about this latest release. Let's dive into what makes the TAG Heuer Monaco Chronograph 2024 a great addition to the line up.
The Legacy of TAG Heuer Monaco
TAG Heuer’s connection with motorsports is legendary. The Monaco series, introduced in 1969, has become an icon, famously worn by Steve McQueen in the film "Le Mans." This lineage of precision and style continues with the 2024 release. Each new model builds on this storied past, blending classic design with modern innovation, making the Monaco series a staple for the brand.
Bold and Modern
The Case and Materials
The TAG Heuer Monaco Chronograph 2024 retains the familiar 39mm square case but introduces a fresh twist with a fully matte blasted, black DLC-coated Grade 2 titanium construction. This new look is not just for show; it ensures the watch is lightweight, balanced, and sporty on the wrist. The arcing case side chamfers, short wedge like lugs, and broad, oblong chronograph pushers are both classic Monaco design elements.
The Dial
The skeletonized dial is where this watch truly shines. While it retains the geometric layout and iconic elements such as the twin square sub dials and circular minutes track, it introduces a striking new colour way. The matte black and metallic navy blue create a strong, masculine base, with vivid sunny yellow chronograph hands adding a pop of colour. It’s a bold, design that remains unmistakably Monaco.
Precision and Power
The Movement
Inside the TAG Heuer Monaco Chronograph beats the in house Heuer 02 automatic chronograph movement. This powerhouse offers a column wheel and vertical clutch chronograph actuation system, a 28,800 bph beat rate, and an impressive 80 hour power reserve. The movement is not just technically excellent; it’s visually stunning with Côtes de Genève* finishing, a bright yellow column wheel, and a black coated skeleton rotor shaped like the TAG Heuer shield.
*The Côtes de Genève finish is the most famous decoration in watch making, used to hide any traces of machining that may be left a various stages of the movements manufacturing process. It consists of a complex pattern of neat lines created by wave like scratches that catch the light and produce beautiful reflections. This finish is sometimes known as "Geneva Waves".
Water Resistance and Durability
With a water resistance rating of 100 meters, this watch is built for both performance and endurance. Whether you're at a high octane race or a sophisticated soirée, the TAG Heuer Monaco Chronograph 2024 is designed to withstand the elements while looking effortlessly stylish.
